Sri Lanka in control in Dhaka

Sri Lanka were in a strong position at stumps on day one of the first Test in Dhaka, sitting on 60 for none after bowling Bangladesh out for 232 in the evening session.

The visitors thus only trailed by 172 runs, with Kaushal Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne going at three to the over. Earlier in the day, Shakib-al-Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim's half centuries had saved the Tigers from complete collapse.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, and the Tigers were soon four down for 59 runs. Tamim Iqbal, Marshall Ayub and Mominul Haque were all out for single figures.

Debutant Shamsur Rehman made it to 33 before being dismissed by Shaminda Eranga, leaving Shakib and Rahim to steady the ship, They put on a partnership of 86 in the afternoon, with Shakib making 55.

He was trapped LBW by Herath just before tea, and Nasir Hussain followed soon after for four, also out to Eranga. Rahim went into the tea break on 55, while spinner Sohag Gazi was on 21.

When Rahim departed for 61 soon after tea, Gazi pushed the run rate up with a flurry of boundaries, racing to double his tea score in 56 balls. He was unable to reach his fifty though, as he became Suranga Lakmal's third wicket.

The rest of the order was dismissed by Rangana Herath and Eranga, who took two and four wickets respectively, leaving Sri Lanka with 19 overs to see out at the end of the day. At the close, Kaushal was on 30 and Karunaratne on 28.

UAE beat PNG by 150 runs

Skipper, Khurram Khan led from the front with a century as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recorded a comprehensive 150-run victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) on the first day of the Super Six stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Qualifiers at Hagley Oval on Sunday.

A captain’s knock from Khurram (138) sealed victory for UAE and helped them get top spot by virtue of Net Run Rate (NRR) in the Super Six table after both teams had finished with four points each.

After being sent in to bat, UAE lost both openers within four overs, before Khan scored at almost a run a ball to help his side post a competitive total of 280.

Khan found the boundary 17 times and struck two sixes in his 145-ball innings, and is now leads the tournament with 413 runs. Vikrant Shetty (35) and Swapnil Patil (29) also contributed with the bat for UAE.

Pace bowler Willie Gavera (three for 39) got the skipper’s wicket in the 44th over and also took two more wickets in the penultimate over.

PNG never recovered from a shaky start, and were reduced to 45 for 5 from 11.1 overs.

Charles Amini top-scored for PNG with 49, but Amjad Javed’s four for 26 saw PNG dismissed for 130 in 28.3 overs.

Khurram who was named Man-of -the-Match was thrilled that his team secured victory in such an important match.

“That was a very important two points because PNG came into the Super Six stage with four points and most of the other teams came with two points. This stage of the competition you just have to beat every team, and we really respect PNG, they are an awesome team and have been doing very well but our guys did a wonderful job,” said Khan.

In other Super Six matches played on Sunday, Kenya‘s Lameck Onyango starred with a four-wicket haul to lead his side to victory over Hong Kong, while rain stopped play in the Scotland-Namibia fixture before a result could be achieved.

Mathews, did you see Dilruwan? (Are there any captains at ground without him?)

It is amazing that a test match win like an ODI. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets at their last test. So they were able to level the series as 1-1. Sri Lanka missed their chance to win the series as 1-0. But unfortunately Pakistan did great job.

Sri Lanka had to face these kinds of bad incidents at four world cup finals. Now they worried like farmers whose crops destroyed from flood. They worked had in previous two matches but unable to complete their task at last day of third match.

Anegelo Mathews did wonderful job as a captain throughout the series. But as a captain ‘One man Show’ is not enough. He should be able to lead the team to achieve their goal. As a captain he should take more responsibility than others, but that is neither only qualification nor basic qualification for captaincy. So if he was able to improve their team works it is more valuable. We didn’t see that at last innings of last match from him. Field setting and usage of bowlers are questionable at that inning.

He used only four bowlers, but there is another off spinner at the team. Dilruwan Perera is an all rounder. But he joined team as a spinner. He scored 95 runs at first innings and took one wicket. Pakistan scored 302 runs from 345 balls with 5.25 run rate. Mathews was forgotten to use Dilruwan or didn’t believe his bowling. So what is the purpose of including him to the team? That was a big mistake. Whole things Mathews done is in vain finally. According to records Pakistan have broken fastest chase in fourth innings when target is more than 300. Previous record is held by West Indies at 1984 against England.

This article is not for criticize Mathews captaincy. Two senior men (Mahela and Sanga) were also fielding with him. Didn’t they see Dilruwan until Pakistan win?

Reputation and ranking the participation of India

An earthquake of "severe" 6.2 magnitude struck the picturesque Wairarapa in the North Island on Monday evening , about 550 km from here, the Indian team has perhaps gone too far to feel the quiver , but it will always be worried.

If she does not get its act together , or at least correct the errors that are becoming a habit, it will soon start quaking in his boots : apart from losing the No. 1 mantle One- dayers , it will probably see his other fortunes decline .

Worse, it will be held and rocked to the core , if it does not remove a side that is ranked eighth humble . The second ODI here on Wednesday , is essential in this context, after all, if the morning shows the day , the first two games set the pace and tempo for the rest of the series.

Yes, India can be satisfied with their means in the first game , despite being on the wrong side of 24 tracks, but they would have noticed that New Zealand were almost perfect in the competition : they purr and rolled like a well-oiled machine , with almost everyone playing his role to perfection .

If Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson made the " donkey work " ( to paraphrase Taylor) , Brendon McCullum and Luke Ronchi fled in reports later, somewhere along the way , Corey Anderson roars IPL account flexing his muscles bulbous .

They have not yet done though: stimulators Kiwi came hard and fast in India with Adam Milne even with a record 153kmph scary. India will be happy to know that the fast bowler will miss the rest of the series with an abdominal tear , but they know that others are online, and they now realize the tour is going to be more difficult than expected .

Suddenly , the flaws in the armor of India seem wider and deeper: the openers fail to give a good start, with Rohit Sharma looking more and more circumspect , Suresh Raina continues to have problems with the ball Ravindra Jadeja short while is not present his batting skills at all.

Bowlers are also apathetic , unable to break with the extra bounce in the track: Ishant Sharma is almost lethargic while Ashwin and Jadeja are unable to extract something from him .

Unfortunately , India will have to live with these shortcomings, at least for the moment , at most , they may pray for one or two of them sort out problems on their own. It will not be a bad idea to be a little more discreet with their shot -making, if not empty completely without traction , or perhaps Shikhar Dhawan if can spin his new handlebar , everything will fall into place automatically.

The good news is that the Seddon Park will provide more than one chance in two of India : the land here is on the slower side and the rebound will not be intimidating . Drummers can play horizontal shots when needed and spinners can be a little more useful.

The bottom line , however, lies with the Indian team : is it ready for a bitter fight? Can you browse the hard times? Or is it towards a shakedown earthquaking proportions ?

Melbourne Stars won by 5 wickets

Melbourne Stars continued their unbeaten run with a convincing victory against Hobart Hurricanes five-wicket in Melbourne. The top three teams - Stars , Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers - have qualified for the semi -finals and the fourth will be fought for between Brisbane Heat , Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers .

The Hurricanes have lost Tim Paine on the first ball of the match when they were invited to bat but Ben Dunk and Jonathan Wells steer them to safety. However, Wells has been referred in the fifth by John Hastings and Shoaib Malik was executed for a diamond duck five balls later , in which Dunk hit two fours , letting to 41 3 . Travis Birt loaded sleeves targeting Scott Boland, who was hit consecutive vau . Stand 43, which lasted 6.3 overs was broken when two drummers were all rejected by Marcus Stoinis , leaving a precarious 84 for 5.

Aiden Blizzard hit two fours and a six , but the rest of the batsmen did not have to rely on the platform Dunk and Birt had expected the last five batsmen gathered only 17 races. Hastings took another wicket to finish with an economical 2 for 15 four overs and Blizzard was unbeaten on 28 as the Hurricanes were restricted to 131 for 9.

The stars have also lost one of their openers early fall with Cameron White for 4 on the first ball Dimitri Mascarenhas of . Luke Wright remained solid at the other end , even if he did not have much support for important partnerships. In nearly seven overs Wright and Brad Hodge put on 42 from which it was only 12 out 26 balls. When it came out in the 12th over , the stars needed 59 from 55. Wright fifty and took the team past 100 but his wicket in the 15th over bumpy hunting them later, but they need less to run - a ball then .

Peter Handscomb a four on the first ball of the last stars have more home and gave them their seventh win in seven games.

India names probable list for World T20

Gautam Gambhir and seasoned opener Virender Sehwag have been omitted from the 30 probable members of India for the next ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Bangladesh while spinner Harbhajan Singh veteran has been named in the list.

Rajat Bhatia Delhi versatile was a surprise inclusion while young Kerala wicket-keeper Sanju Samson, who was a revelation in the shorter format , and former captain of the India U - 19 Unmukt Chand were also included in the list probable for the event to be held from March 16 to April 6 .

Unknown railways leg-spinner Karn Sharma, who made an impression in the Indian Premier League and the Champions League for Sunrisers Hyderabad, was also named in the list announced by BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel .

Harbhajan was rewarded for his IPL performance last season where he was one of the best wicket -takers with 24 scalps at a rate of 6.15 impressive economy .

Its shape stick was also good as he hit match-winning 92 in Punjab quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy last week.

Gambhir , who is no longer in the Indian ODI or test team failed to make the cut alongwith Virender Sehwag , another player was higher was off the radar selection for some time due to poor form .

Irfan Pathan and Yousuf , Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay will not be included in the list.

But the biggest surprise was the inclusion of 34 Rajat Bhatia . A pillar Delhi , Bhatia was effective enough to Kolkata Knight Riders.

He scored 5089 points and took 107 wickets in 87 first class matches . He played 104 matches T20 and played in six IPL with Delhi Daredevils for the first three and the last three for KKR.

His strike rate is 116 to stand at No. 7 or 8, when he took 78 wickets at a rate of 7.15 economy is decent by the standards of T20 . Ashoke Dinda Bengal ( 37 wickets ) and Laxmi Ratan Shukla ( 584 points and 9 wickets ) but failed to do so in the team of 30 members.

The list of probable was largely taken on the basis of performance and IPL is why Mandeep Singh Kimgs XI Punjab Shahbaz Nadeem and left-arm spinner of Delhi Daredevils were also quality.

Probable cause : Shikhar Dhawan , Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli , Suresh Raina , Ajinkya Rahane , Ambati Rayudu , MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik , Ravindra Jadeja , Ravichandran Ashwin , Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami , Ishant Sharma, Vinay Kumar, Stuart Binny , Mohit Sharma, Kedar Jadhav , Yuvraj Singh Amit Mishra, Rajat Bhatia, Sanju Samson, Ishwar Pandey, Umesh Yadav, Unmukt Chand, Mandeep Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Varun Aaron , Shahbaz Nadeem , Parthiv Patel, Karn Sharma.

India tour of New Zealand, 2nd ODI

At Napier , New Zealand said they would go hard in India. This is a series that they have waited long for , rather nervously too , given the reluctance of the BCCI to honor the FTP and accountability to anyone. Now it happened, New Zealand are there to take full advantage of the abridged version of the tour.
It promises to be a series of equal strength : for their assault to the bat and ball , and shine in the field , New Zealand will still need their best at all times to get a better India , as was evident from the way Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni almost won a lost match their own . There was a lot of back and forth in the first ODI with both sides showing toughness at various points of the game. If they can keep that for the next 10 days , we could be in a memorable ODI series .
After Napier win, Brendon McCullum and Mitchell McClenaghan , the pitcher who did the most damage , have both said they were happy with the way the bouncers worked against India - four specialist batsmen fell pulling - and there will be no respite despite the absence of Adam Milne, who constantly upset about 150kmph in his first spell . Hamilton , however, could be closer to home to India. It has slowed recently , has been helping the spinners , has short boundaries and India should bring fond memories of comfortable victories in both the Test and ODI on their last trip to New Zealand .

There is extra incentive for India to win in Hamilton. If they do not , they will lose their No. 1 ranking in Australia temporarily .
